Abstract

Background and Objectives: New curriculum theories, such as humanistic and transpersonal theories, view humans as multidimensional and active beings. These multiple dimensions are reflected in the holistic curriculum. Therefore, the aim of this article is to identify these multiple dimensions in the holistic curriculum.
Methods: Data was collected using a systematic review method. The selection and analysis of articles were conducted following the seven-step method of Wright et al (2007) across three databases: Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Information regarding the publication of relevant articles in various countries was extracted using the VOSviewer software. The validity of the selected documents was assessed using the PRISMA method. To examine reliability, results were checked through the reliability index of evaluators, with an agreement between the two coders (above 0.8).
Findings: Findings showed that the dimensions of the holistic curriculum include three aspects: individual, interpersonal, and environmental. For the individual aspect, themes such as intellectual growth, spiritual growth, and physical growth were identified. For the interpersonal aspect, themes like moral, cultural, and social growth were recognized. For the environmental aspect, themes such as artistic and aesthetic growth and naturalistic growth were identified.
Conclusion: Teachers and instructional designers, by studying these dimensions and components, can gain a deeper understanding of the holistic curriculum as one of the most innovative educational approaches and effectively apply it in their teaching and instructional design.
