Background and Objectives: Today's world is the age of information, social and virtual networks. Students spend a lot of time in these media. Excessive use of the Internet by students and addiction to it is one of the factors that affects their academic, social and emotional performance.
Methods: The aim of current research was to study the relationship between family functioning and parenting styles with Internet addiction in female high school students in Diwaniyah, Iraq. The design of research was a descriptive-correlational in which 240 students were selected from 650 students using random sampling method in 2019. The Young's Internet Addiction, the McMaster et al Family Function and the Baumrind Parenting Inventories were used to gathering the data.
Findings: Multiple regression analysis revealed that the variables of family functioning were negative, permissive parenting style was positive and significant, and authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles were negative and significant were the ability to predict Internet addiction in students.
Conclusion: Developing and applying a prevention program are needed based on current research finding.
